The owl is a good representation of fall and halloween as well which is always good for pumpkin beer artwork. It is one of my favorites.Īrtwork – My take on the artwork is that Elysian wanted to represent the darkness of the Night Owl beer (because it is a wicked dark beer) with a bird that represents night time and dark woods in the back. Over all, Night Owl is a great beer and I definitely recommend anyone who likes pumpkin beer to try it. To compare, most home brewers use 5-15 pounds of pumpkin, Sam Adams uses 20 pounds for their “20 Pounds Of Pumpkin Ale”, and the average for big batches of pumpkin ales is around 50-70 pounds (not all pumpkin beers list how much they use so this number is not accurate). In the Night Owl batches, Elysian brewery puts 150 pounds of pumpkin in to flavor the beer. It’s not hoppy or bitter at all and the aftertaste is a nice cinnamon flavor. It is brewed with pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. He went there for private parties with friends and family to drink beer. I think anyone with an affinity towards pumpkin flavored drinks will enjoy this, and if you have friends that don’t typically enjoy beer then this is a great drink for them as there’s not that typically malty or hoppy bite to it that you find in most other beers. Yes, there is definitive pumpkin flavor but the inclusion of nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, ginger, and allspice bring a balance to it. Let’s talk flavor now, Night Owl may seem extremely pumpkin by now, based on everything you’ve read, but you would be wrong. When buying this beer in bottle form keep in mind that it’s not filtered and this can often lead to sediment floating around in your drink so don’t be surprised if you get a little surprise while drinking. The head of these Fall brews from Elysian is their Night Owl pumpkin ale, probably one of the most mass distributed pumpkin beers from them that can be found practically anywhere.Īs you already read from the brewer’s notes, this beer is brewed with over 7lbs of pumpkin per barrel, which is insane.
